About the artwork:
This artwork is a fusion of traditional and modern dress in Russia. Incorporated into this piece is the pattern of the gemstone Malachite. Tanyushka comes from the Russian folktale ' the malachite box'. Like a renaissance, Malachite was greatly admired in the sophisticated courts of imperial Russia in the early 1900s. Russian tsars and princesses dedicated national tales and entire halls of their palaces to this gemstone.
This piece is part of a larger body of work that is a celebration of the modern woman in today's world. She understands where she has come from and where she is going next. She is socially aware and embraces her culture and heritage with a modern twist
This body of work is inspired by my travels as a young girl, backpacking around the world. It also embodies my keen interest in fashion and textiles.
