Caring for your Jewellery
Caring for your earrings
These earrings are made from a non toxic PVC based medium called Polymer Clay.
I colour mix, mould, and ass things like gold leaf and glitter. These earrings are shaped, cured, and sanded by hand.
Even though this medium is durable and strong it still needs to be cared for correctly because it can easily be broken with improper use and storage, especially with delicate designs. I use nickle free backings and clasps for the gold designs and surgical steel for silver designs.
Although Polymer Clay is strong, that doesn't mean it is indestructible! The best method of storage is in a cool dry spot, and for earrings, use an earring holder to avoid them being knocked and easily broken.
Polymer Clay is a porous material and can scuff easily. You can use a damp cloth to wipe in between wears. If you find there are marks that don't come off you can use a small amount of rubbing alcohol and wipe sparingly, however, don't do this on beads or earrings which have gold leaf as this will affect the varnish.
Avoid showering or swimming while wearing your jewellery. Keep them away from perfumes or harsh chemicals to preserve the colours. Over time, polymer clay that is well worn will get a natural patina and what is referred to as well lived in.
